Some favorite Netflix documentaries
(In no particular order) 1. Man on Wire —because Philip Petit is awe inspiring 2. The Photographers —a look at what goes into making the perfect shot 3. The Business of Being Born —not actually about crazy hippies, as I supposed 4. Solitary Confinement —its history and effects on the mind 5. Saint of 9/11 —an interesting look on homosexuality in the priesthood ...

Africa Reboots →
Apparently, Africa is re-writing the rules. Or at least, Bono claims this is so. Here is a nice article the Irishman wrote for the NY Times last week.

Jon Foreman: What's in a Word? →
A beautiful article Jon Foreman recently wrote for the Huffington Post. The article covers the topics of Hope and the power art has to foster this hope, including some explanations as to why he writes songs, and what he hopes the artist achieves.

Haiti's Hope
As I am sitting here watching video of Haitians praising God in the streets and singing throughout the night I cannot help but hear a soft echo in my mind: by my side digging through the rubble, she’s not giving up…hope.* How can this be the response? How can this possibly be the response of a country whose orphaned population may have tripled in the last 48 hours? For a city expecting a possible...

Reviival Cabin ‘09. I finally made this video. It’s not very good, but it’s fun for the people who were there I suppose. Hopefully better software and videos to come.

Help A Hurting Person →
I’ve often wondered what to do when I see panhandlers. As a Christian, I am called to care for orphans and widows, but it is of course imperative to take into account my own personal safety. I want to help, but how can I? I found these tips from the Portland Rescue Mission helpful, and I feel more prepared now to meet the needs of a child of God who has ended up on the streets.

Convention highlights video I filmed this weekend. Really bad quality as i filmed it completely on a “coolpix” digital camera only really intended for still photos. At the end of the conference it was projected on the big screen and the whole video showed up with a strange red quality, as the camera was never made to produce shots quite that large. (Or at least that’s how the...

Top Albums of the Decade:
JFH recently made a listing of their staff members picks for the top 10 albums of the decade. I liked the lists, but each of the thirteen lists were on a different page, making comparison between each list hard. I began to wonder what a list of the top albums would look like if compiled in order of the number of times recommended by a JFH staff member in their list. After carefully examining the...

Hierarchy of Band Members:
(in order of most famous to least appreciated) 1. Frontman -leads the show, calls the set, usually lead singer/songwriter -also the one you will find the most girls screaming about Ex: Matthew Thiessen 2. Relative(s) of Frontman -known for having the same last name as Frontman -often the phrase ‘brother of Frontman…’ or ‘cousin of Frontman…’ follows this...

Hope and Daylight
In the music world there are two beautiful metaphors which are tackled by the bands Brave Saint Saturn and Remedy Drive. These are the metaphors of Hope and Daylight. __________________________________ Brave Saint Saturn (or brave Saint Saturn) forming out of the remnants of the late 90’s ska band Five Iron Frenzy, BS2 set out with the purpose of making a concept album trilogy which would...
